Blood Donation Machine in Jamaica

Platelets are cells in the blood that prevent bleeding. Some people who have blood diseases such as leukemia, aplastic anemia, or are on cancer chemotherapy, may have too few platelets or platelets that don’t work efficiently, and need to get platelet transfusions from healthy donors to survive.

The best way to get platelets from healthy donors is to use an apheresis machine. It is a machine which can separate the elements of blood and collect the platelets, then return the remainder of the blood back safely to the donor.

There is only one such machine at the University Hospital in Jamaica, and it is in need of repairs so that it can be used to help the patients who so desperately need it. We need your help! Any donation will help us to get one step closer to our goal. Help Jamaica Build Jamaica.

Thank you,
